5 Things I Wish Everyone Knew About Yoga

  1. You don’t have to be flexible to do Yoga.

I have been practising Yoga for over 20 years and I am still not “flexible”. I work hard for the range I do have in my body.

But the flexibility aspect is the least exciting part of practising Yoga for me.

What I have learnt about myself through being in my body has been far more impactful.

  2. That Yoga gets harder before it gets easier.

Beginning Yoga as a physical practice is incredibly humbling.

Even though you may enjoy your first few classes, there’s an element of discomfort that arises. Maybe it’s in not being able to access the pose initially or it’s in the stillness.

There is an edge we meet and must choose to move through gently. Through this dedication our body responds, our mind expands + we get to receive Yoga’s beauty.

  3. Yoga is about the long game.

As our modern world rapidly changes shape around us we are often seeking instant gratification.

While there is no better feeling than Savasana (like all Yogi’s knows), the true potency of our practice reveals itself over time.

And we may not see the results on our mat first as we explore our bodies in the poses, however maybe it’s a good nights sleep, more patience, less reactivity, a sense of contentment, a new habit forming with ease.

The longer we commit to our practice there comes a point when we look back + realise a whole transformation has taken place.

  4. That a lot of the wellness trends we see have their origins in Yoga.

Meditation, manifestation, breath work, cyclical living, herbal tonics, adaptogenic supplements, body care, morning routines, bio hacking, mindfulness, sleep monitoring, seasonal eating and so much more are all a part of living ayurvedically.

Yoga has been around for thousands of years + will be for thousands of years more. The tools + techniques we share are well established.

  5. You don’t have to be spiritual to enjoy Yoga.

Yoga is by nature a spiritual practice.

Yet the invitation is there for you to dip your toes in as deep as you feel called.

You can embrace the physical aspects of Yoga without all the “woo woo” of course.

However what I witness over my decade teaching is that slowly the ripple of the practice becomes a way of living as each student feels ready.

  6. ok one more..

    You will love it.

I would love to see everyone experience the gifts of Yoga.

It shaped my life.
